Searching for siblings and descendants of William SANDS and Mary SANDS supposedly b. Parry Sound. Mother unkn, may have been b. Parry Sound or Sioux Lookout; father Joseph (?) supposedly b. Sioux Lookout. William had two sons we're aware of: Hugh Burleigh b ca 1914 and Samuel. The family eventually settled in Wallaceburg ON. Mary SANDS b 1859 m Joseph Arthur FISHER of Wallaceburg area and they had 8 ch. Apparently some of the SANDS family are buried in Parry Sound. Photos were said to have been taken of headstones there which list manner of
their deaths (mauled by a bear; scalped by an Indian). The SANDSes are said to be of Native descent, specifically Cree from one source, possibly on the mother's side. Please contact heidimccarron@cogeco.ca if you know of any SANDSes in this area. Thank you.

I am trying to find information on a bachelor, Alfie Steel(e) possibly Alfred who owned a farm near Utterson. In the 1940s and 50s a Warren (Barney) Oldfield (a baker) and family boarded with him and took care of him when he became ill. When he died he left the farm to the Oldfields as he had no family. I believe he immigrated from England but am not sure when. I would like to know if anyone could look up Alfie Steele and the Oldfields in a local directory? An obituary and burial information would also be very helpful.

TEVIOTDALE

Ann Macdonald Watt
ammwatt@tiscali.co.uk

I am keen to trace descendants of two cousins of my great-grandmother: John and James Teviotdale, who emigrated to Bracebridge, Muskoka, according to a letter from the 1930s which I came across recently. Their parents were Joseph Teviotdale from Angus and Ann McKenzie from Dava Moor near Grantown-on-Spey, who were married in Cromdale in 1829. John Teviotdale was born in 1830 in Banffshire and James Teviotdale in 1840 in Nairn, but by the 1841 Census the family had moved back to Angus, Joseph's home county.

I found on the web that there was a John Teviotdale who had a shop in the early days of Bracebridge and think this is probably one of the ones I am looking for.

I have a lot of research findings to share with any descendants of these people.

Thanks for any help,
Ann

TOBIN

Carol Cunningham
ccunning@shaw.ca

From a published account (Tithes Masses & Notes - Brevity of Father J. McDonald) I found the names of Tobin, Angus 14-Nov-1871 and listed the names of Angus Tobin & Bridget s/o Joseph s/o Martin with the list of 13 children living on Tobin's Island. There was indication that the family perished in a fire in 1871 but the context was confusing.

Joseph Tobin was the brother of my great grandfather & I have been working on this family's history and genealogy.

I found an account of a McNaughton living on Tobin Island who is a descendent of this Tobin family. Is there someone in your group who can help me connect the dots - or put me in touch with the McNaughtons?

Many thanks.
Carol

Charles W. Weech
cweech1@cogeco.ca

I am researching my surname WEECH and in so doing came across a site on the net which had the photograph of a gravemarker. The gravesite was at the South River Cemetery (South River, Ontario) It read Anna Chapman WEECH 1874 to 1967 beloved wife of William WEECH.
