MacDonald

Alan Gillies
gillieses@fastmail.fm

I'm looking for any information about my great uncle Alexander MacDonald, who was born in Kenmore, Applecross, Scotland in 1889, moved to Canada, fought in the Canadian army in WW1, and was discharged in Ottawa in 1919. His family lost touch with him, but from some fragmentary letters I have, I think they heard he may have died in Parry Sound sometime between 1919 and 1929. There were later unconfirmed rumours that he may have moved to South Africa.

Any information would be gratefully received.

MAHOOD,
TAYLOR,
REID

Suzanne Burgess
sburgess26@shaw.ca

My great grandmother Sarah Annie Taylor (called Annie) married Thomas Mahood August 9, 1886 in Gravenhurst. The name was spelled 'Mahood' on birth registrations of all her children, but spelled 'Mayhood' on the marriage registration. When I was a child we pronounced it 'Mayhood' but knew the correct spelling. The marriage registration gave her parents as David and Kate Taylor, James Taylor was a witness. The marriage between Annie and Thomas Mahood was not successful, and I believe he left Muskoka for B.C. Annie Mahood was the mother of my father's mother Lillian Mahood, who married Robert McVittie Reid. The other children of Thomas and Annie were Robert James Grant (called Grant), Annie Ethel, and David George. Annie (Taylor) Mahood lived to a great age, dying in Gravenhurst late 1960 or early 1961 when I was 12. I am posting this in the hope that someone can give me some information about Annie's parents David & Kate Taylor, and any information on their connections in Muskoka.

Noble,
Thompson,
Harris

Sandy Swanson
swanfish@cpinternet.com

My greatgrandmother, Mary E. Noble, was born in Parry Sound June 1, 1877. She has a twin, Margaret. I believe her parents were William John and Harriet(nee Healy) Noble. It is believed that William had died and Harriet remarried a Harris. Mary and her family supposedly came to the U.S. via Windsor. Mary was in the Cloquet, Minnesota area around 1902(she was married in 1903--there is an O'Reilly connection there as she was married in North Dakota at the residence of a J.T. O'Reilly). Her sister, Margaret, married Charles Thompson and was living in the Parry Sound area in the 1940's.

I am trying to find out when the Nobles came to and left the Parry Sound area. According to the IDS web site William was Scottish and Harriet was Irish.

I plan to be in the Parry Sound area the first week of September for 3 days. Where would I best look/do research while there? Is it possible that there are still Thompsons living there? I plan to do research on Ancesry.com in the mean time but would appreciate tips for researching the Parry Sound area as well. Thank you for any help you can provide!!!!!!!!!!

PASCALL

Luke Pascall
lp_34@hotmail.com

I am looking for the gravesite of my Great Grandfather John Pascall in Uffington Ontario. His obituary states he was buried there in 1918. My wife and I have been to Uffington but could not make out most of the graves names. As well we don't know which graveyard is the correct one, we assume anyone associated with Church of England, Anglican or Methodist.

I am also interested in locating the original homestead there. Somewhere in a dusty file I have the lot and concession number but I am not sure how to equate that to an actual location.

This website is a very valuable resource and the information on the cemetaries is especially helpful.

Here is a URL for a picture of my great grandfather as well as my grandfather.

Also here is a URL for what I think is an old picture of Utterson

RUTTAN

byoung@inorth.on.ca
Elliot Lake, Ontario

I'm researching the family Ruttan, whose Canadian origins were Adolphustown, then Peterborough area, and in the 1870s, Muskoka, specifically Ryde Township, east of Gravenhurst. My g-gr-father Jesse died in the area of Consumption in August 1874 at the age of 34. I have recorded a couple of cemeteries back abt 1979: Ryde Twp. cemetery and Pioneer Memorial cemetery south of Barkway. The 2 cemetery listings are currently at http://www.interment.net .

RUTTER

colin rutter
cmr1066@canada.com

Just inquiring into Rutters in the Muskokas.

There was a Richard Rutter aged 22 (born Cape of Good Hope, S.A.), his wife Matilda Louisa Rutter aged 18 (born England), and a brother Charles John Rutter aged 23 (born Cape of Good Hope, S.A.) in the 1881 census at Oakley & Ryde & Draper, Muskoka.

Matilda Louisa Rutter was buried in the Fraserburg United Church Cemetary in 1886.

In the 1960's or 70's there was a railway station named "Rutter" somewhere in Muskoka, at least on the way northward to Parry Sound. Is it still there, and where exactly was it?

Did Richard and Matilda Louisa or Charles John Rutter have any descendants?

Thanks for reading this, and if you have any info, I thank you in advance.

Best regards Colin.

RYNESS

Mary Gadberry
litlbaa@sbcglobal.net

I am looking for info on the Ryness (could also be Riness, Rhyndress, or just about anything else that sounds close to that!) family. The info I have is on Jesse Nelson Ryness, born either 1824 or 1826 in North Gwillambury, married Eunice Sweet in 1851, died in 1898 in Huntsville. They had 9 children; I don't have all the names. Jesse and Eunice's son Andrew Nelson, born in 1851 in Guelph, married Sarah Ann Welsh (born 1854 in Peterborough) in 1871. They moved to Nebraska sometime in the 1880s, then moved to Millington, MI, where they both died in 1933. They had 14 children, again, I don't have all the info. Their son (Andrew) Walter was born in St. Paul, NE in 1881, married Jane Welsh in 1908, and died in NE in 1966. Any info on the family will be greatly appreciated, and I will be happy to share anything I have as well.
